The Arizona Revised Statutes, at A.R.S. §§ 12-101 – 12-119.05, address the establishment and function of the Arizona Supreme Court. A.R.S. § 12-101 states:
The supreme court shall consist of five judges. The term of office of each judge shall be six years and shall take effect on the first Monday in January of the year in which it begins. Judges shall be elected at the general election next preceding the expiration of a term of office.
The Arizona Supreme Court is the highest court in the State of Arizona and primarily hears appellate matters, as well as providing the rules of procedure for all the courts in Arizona. Because the Supreme Court has discretionary jurisdiction, meaning that it is not required to review a decision of a lower court, an Arizona appellate lawyer should be consulted in connection with the preparation of any appeal.
